Glenfiddich Experimental Series - Fire & Cane

Let the great experiment... Continue! Glenfiddich has added a new expression to its Experimental Series, unveiling Fire & Cane in mid-2018. Malt master Brian Kinsman has given some of the distillery's peated single malt a three-month finishing period in rum casks - but not just any old rum casks. He's selected rum casks from a variety of South American countries to finish this whisky, which ought to play nicely with the burly peat notes at its core.

    Tasting Note by The Producer

    Nose

Billowing soft peat notes, like distant smoke on the wind. Rich sweet toffee with zesty fresh fruit notes and spiciness.

    Palate

Like a Highland peat campfire, with oak notes and toffee. Sharp green fruit, sweet baked apple and soft smoke.

    Finish

    Lingering smokiness and sweetness.

    In the special cabinet

Bought as a father's day present as I knew he wouldn't have tried it and it's gone down a treat! Not allowed in the usual cabinet as too nice, it's gone into the special occasion one! Great service and delivery as usual from the team. Thank you

    Exquisite nose and taste

The subtle smokiness combined with the sweetness from the rum finishing casks is a welcome addition to Glenfiddich's repertoire. It's well worth trying, even if you generally avoid peaty smokiness.

    Unfair representation

I feel like some of the people that don’t like this whisky were expecting it to be similar to Glenfiddichs unpeated offerings which is not a good comparison. If you don’t like subtle peat then this isn’t for you, but for those that like a bit of smoke, this is a lovely and smooth easy drinking whisky almost reminiscent of Ardmore but a bit sweeter from the rum influence. Would definitely buy this again ??

    Lovely

It's always subjective to the reader writing a review, what your taste buds reveal are different to what others reveal. I bought this because it was a Glenfiddich and to taste the experiment. For me it was just the right balance of flavour with a small if not medium hint of smokiness. I generally don't do peaty whiskies from the islands like Islay or a brand like Laphroaig they are too strong for me, but this Glenfiddich had the balance just right, with the hint of sweetness.

    What a shame

Tastes like arc welding, clinical aftertaste, made me wonder if it's past a best before date, probably ok as a cleaning fluid for a diesel particle filter, real waste of a lot of money
