Glenfiddich AoD Madeira

Glenfiddich Age of Discovery is a rich 19 year old single malt matured in oak casks previously used to age fine Madeira wine. This has created an earthy, distinctive whisky with a full bodied yet fairly young character.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose A deep earthy aroma of sweet ripe figs and orange marmalade with bright notes of fresh gooseberries and grapes.

Palate Rich and spicy, cinnamon and crushed black pepper rest on a base of deep earthy notes, caramalised fruits, crystallised ginger, raisins and hints of dry oak.

Finish Pleasingly dry with warmth that fades into a lingering sweet marmalade finish.

Overall Smooth and satisfying, this is an interesting whisky that wears its Madeira cask maturation on its sleeve.

Mmmmm
Not being a booze snob, I normally drink run of the mill whisky but sampled this at the distillery. Very good indeed.
Their lounge manager declared it to be one of his favourites. I had a kindly, mellow glow for hours afterwards, although not inclined to splash out on their top one at £1,000 a tot.

After the Red Wine cask version...so disappointed with this
Nose: Cold tea. Tepid ginger.

Palate: There is a harsh greased arch to this. The burnt sugar is invasive.

After: It's there, it's not large, but the off sugar note remains. Okay.

An excellent dram
Goes down dangerously easily, and I really enjoyed the (for me) unusual finish as I've never had a madeira finish before. I need to procure another bottle asap!

Journey
With a very smooth texture with depth i highly recommend this whiskey. I drank with a friend I have not seen in years and it opened another level of comfort and dimension in our conversation. Loved it.
