Glenfarclas
Scotland
Single Malt
A bottle of Glenfarclas' exemplary 30 year old single malt - a heavily sherried expression which is well-loved here at MoM Towers. This is an old bottling, before the recent redesign of the packaging introduced a presentation box designed to mimic the warehouse doors you'd see if you visited the distillery in Speyside.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Rich, dark. Smoky, sherry. Sugared peels, zesty. Rubbery.
Thick. Creamy sherry, buttery, spicy, malt loaf. Herbal, fresh.
Long, full, rubbery on the tail.
A quality dram and agree with the maltmasters tasting notes. Definately stronger on the nose and more subtle on the palate though. It's all about the dram but even so very cheap packaging for a 230 quid bottle.
I bought a bottle of this, after rather liking some other Speyside makes. I have to say, the smell is lovely and the initial taste great…but the after wash of a rubbery, peaty tangs is not at all nice. I think i will definitely try the samples before parting with >£100 pounds again.
.....because I bought one now...
I think this is incredibly delicious and very complex. A great long-lasting finish. Am I simply impressed by the fact that this is a 30-year old for under $200 (US)? I'd like to think not. If my tasting is unbiased, then this truly is a remarkable single-malt at a very extraordinary price. I've spent a lot more on Scotches of this age. Aw heck, try the sample and decide for yourself!
Struggled with the price point on this one. The 30 year was easily rivaled by the 12 year for a fraction of the price. Had similar vanilla and cinnamon notes but had a rather harsh bite on the finish. Was glad to have tried but wasn't terribly impressed.
