Glendullan 1999-2013

From the Glendullan distillery in Dufftown comes a 1999 vintage single malt Scotch whisky, matured in first fill bourbon barrels and refill Sherry hogsheads. Gordon & MacPhail bottled it in 2013 and brought it into their Connoisseurs Choice selection.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Bustling with vanilla and pear. Rather nutty, too.

Palate Brazil nuts, more vanilla and a pinch of menthol develops.

Finish Continued vanilla notes.

Overall The first fill bourbon barrels had quite an affect on this one.

Pouring a light golden colour I added a teaspoon of water and left covered for ten minutes to allow the aromas to develop in the glass.

The nose opens with huge hits of honeyed pear, peach, banana, mint and a note like an old confectioners shop. This is followed by rhubarb, strawberry and a hint note unlike bassets fruit salad sweets.

The flavour is much drier than the nose leads you to believe. Hits of mint and dry oak come through at the front of the taste, this is followed by a note of apple and roasted grains. Through the middle of the taste is a bitter caramel, rasin and pine nut. The finish has notes of pine and a light tropical fruit flavour on the finish.

The finish is long lasting with floral and soft bitter notes.
