Glendullan 14 Year Old 2010 (Master of Malt)

A tremendously enjoyable Glendullan single malt here! Distilled in August 2010, this whisky spent 14 years hanging out in a refill butt before we came along and bottled it up for our own independent Master of Malt collection in 2025. A release of 664 bottles, without added colour or chill filtration, it boasts an oily texture, layered with sweet caramel and apple for a superbly characterful sipper.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Dense and sweet, with Rolos, Daim bars, syrup-soaked sponge cake, pistachio chocolate, and crispy wafers. Creamy vanilla custard and thick caramel. Green apple joins in time, with rich oak, and buttered malt loaf.

    Palate

Rich and robust, with oily oak and woody spice welcoming the way for sweeter notes of honeyed dates, apple pastries, and sticky toffee. Chewy malt and caramel cushion creeping peppery warmth.

    Finish

An enjoyable flash of peppercorn and dried chilli flake heat, tamed by vanilla fudge, and Anzac biscuits, with lingering drying oak.

    A small epiphany.

Ever since fate cast Charlie Maclean's 'Systematic Whisky Appreciation' YouTube video in my direction nearly 2 years ago I have been trying to develop my palate in a more thoughtful way. I am quick to spot peaty notes and as a Speyside fan 'Caramel' was the first thing to leap out of a glass! I was intrigued by this bottle and it's description and had no idea what to expect. I have taken to 'nosing and tasting' before I read the tasting notes on the bottle to avoid undue influence. On first sip I was assailed by a lovely caramel, but was that an oily note? and I was sure I detected apple. As I had never detected either an 'Oily' or 'Apple' note previously I walked across the room to check out the tasting notes.. 'Caramel, Oily, Apple!.. You could have knocked me over with a feather. I was truly very excited and delighted. So I can say that this bottle made my day and gets a big thumbs up from me.
