Interestingly, this GlenDronach single malt was matured in European oak before a finishing period spent in fresh virgin oak casks.
Nose: Spicy; cardamon and cloves - then there is roasted coffee beans and toasted oak coming though with coconut husk.
Palate: Banana, melon and coconut, tropical flavours layered over a spicy floor.
Finish: Ginger, cinnamon and banana foam sweets.
Overall: Lots of tropical fruit flavours with the toasty spice of new oak firmly stating its presence.

Recently brought a bottle of this to a tasting, and it wasn't anywhere near to a crowd-pleaser. On its base, it is a great Highland scotch - spicy and with some detectable fruit in it. But the nose - palate coordination is dis-jointed. The nose exhibits such nice things - tropical fruit, vanilla, and spice, but fails to deliver on the palate. Bourbon lovers, however, will like this scotch as it is very 'in your face' with the delivery because of the virgin oak.

Wonderfully spicy and fruity. For a 46 percent, very smooth, especially after the first sip. Definitely a fan.
