GlenDronach 12 Year Old Bottling Note

If sherried single malt is very much your thing, then GlenDronach is a name you should get to know very well. The distillery resides in the Highlands, busily working away on some incredible expressions, with sherried malt sitting at the core of many of them. This particular dram, The GlenDronach 12 Year Old, is allowed to age in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks from Spain, resulting in generous helpings of dried fruit and Christmas spice running through it. Bottled without chill-filtration or additional colouring, you can expect great stuff from this approachable single malt.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Rich cereals, struck match, raisin, cinnamon, caramelised sugar. Opens with some sweeter PX and lots of delicious raw ginger before becoming creamier with hazelnuts.

Palate: Fruits, peels, buttery. Pain au chocolat, a little marmalade on toast before becoming firmer and nuttier with spiced raisins.

Finish: Smoky toffee and nut brittle.

GlenDronach 12 Year Old Reviews

More flavorful than Aberlour 12 or Balvinie 12 .

More flavorful than Aberlour 12 or Balvinie 12 . We all have our preferences, but I'd say get this over those.

Macallan 12 taste at 20 bucks less!

Sherry bomb! #*&$ it is good though. Rivals the taste of Macallan 12 at 20 bucks less! Well worth it, and not to dog on Macallan 12 which is excellent its just more expensivd because of the name recognition, which again isnt a bad thing, but if youre looking to save money go with Glendronach 12.

Great transition to a Smokey whisky

Gorgeous whisky has to be one of my favourites

Smooth, sweet and spicy

Really a nice sweet and smooth sherry cask dram, lots of nuances.

Great quality vs. price.

Complex and intriguing

Rich caramel, hints of nuts and slight fruit and florals. Glencairn horizontal, on the nose with Glencairn verticle, caramel on top, malted barley under rim; nutty, oaky and spicy on bottom third with a hint of smoke.
Flavor starts spicy, moves into oaky and then nutty. Finishes sweet with fruits and florals.

Average scotch i'd say. It's not bad but it's nothing special for me either. Maybe i'm not ready for it yet.

A touch different. A well-judged starter dram

This is no-nonsense stuff. You can definitely taste the whisky behind the sherry. The whisky is clean and a bit sharp, with a bitter drinness that probably results in the "match" tasting note. I feel the distillation shares a lot in common with Royal Lochnagar
On top, there is a well-integrated sweetness, most apparent in the nose. Not overdone or artificial. It serves to soften "an honest dram" rather than overwhelm it.
This does not drink like a mass market whisky. Its neither refined nor tamed enough for that. Instead, it is whisky made for those who have "done" the usual suspects and have decided to explore.
Is it a classic? At this point I'm not sure. But while I have been writing this review I have been chewing the aftertaste of my last sip.
I think the only thing this whisky needs is a bit more time in the barrel.
And that isn't a bad thing

My new Favourite

Tried a number, but this has to be my new go-to, my new favourite

Ok for price

First sherry. Normally a laguvulin 16. Seems rougher than laguvulin. Not as smooth. Not bad but not for my taste.
