GlenDronach
Single Malt
Scotland
If sherried single malt is very much your thing, then GlenDronach is a name you should get to know very well. The distillery resides in the Highlands, busily working away on some incredible expressions, with sherried malt sitting at the core of many of them. This particular dram, The GlenDronach 12 Year Old, is allowed to age in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks from Spain, resulting in generous helpings of dried fruit and Christmas spice running through it.
Please note: We're afraid we can't guarantee which vintage you will receive. It'll still be yummy GlenDronach no matter the vintage, mind!
Rich cereals, struck match, raisin, cinnamon, caramelised sugar. Opens with some sweeter PX and lots of delicious raw ginger before becoming creamier with hazelnuts.
Fruits, peels, buttery. Pain au chocolat, a little marmalade on toast before becoming firmer and nuttier with spiced raisins.
Smoky toffee and nut brittle.

A perfect single malt for those who find some of the more traditional top shelf single malts a little confronting. A gentle whiskey of not much character.
It seems pretty well integrated, but the casks seem pretty tired too. Malt, a bit of fruit, and the dry char from the casks It's perfectly drinkable, but the sherry influence is pretty muted. Certainly, Glenallackie is much more sherry driven, although that's far less balanced than this. I keep looking for a replacement for Fauna and Flora Mortlach 16, and I'm yet to find it
Palates are different, and I tend to favour peated though occasionally like a sweeter dram but this was just run of the mill. For a 12 year old and given all the hype, I would have expected more depth and finish. Yes it was smooth, and dried fruits and bit of spice coming through but that’s it.
Lovely smooth rich single malt at a very reasonable price. All the taste notes are as described making it a pleasant easy single malt to drink without water giving a lovely aroma with each sip.
Love this malt. I'll not describe it, I'll just say that I'm on my third bottle. Easy drinking single malt. The sherry aging really helps. Yes, there are better examples out there at a higher price but this slips down really nicely
