GlenDronach 12yo (Old)

If sherried single malt is very much your thing, then GlenDronach is a name you should get to know very well. The distillery resides in the Highlands, busily working away on some incredible expressions, with sherried malt sitting at the core of many of them. This particular dram, The GlenDronach 12 Year Old, is allowed to age in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks from Spain, resulting in generous helpings of dried fruit and Christmas spice running through it.

Please note: We're afraid we can't guarantee which vintage you will receive. It'll still be yummy GlenDronach no matter the vintage, mind!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Rich cereals, struck match, raisin, cinnamon, caramelised sugar. Opens with some sweeter PX and lots of delicious raw ginger before becoming creamier with hazelnuts.

Palate Fruits, peels, buttery. Pain au chocolat, a little marmalade on toast before becoming firmer and nuttier with spiced raisins.

Finish Smoky toffee and nut brittle.

Reviews for The GlenDronach 12 Year Old (Old design)
Highlands/Coastal scotch
By the looks of it, it is a quality whisky with great texture. Oily, sticks to the glass.
Nice nose with fortified wine, apple pie, raisins and caramel. Not overly sweet on the palate, but the flavours are well put together. Spicy finish, raisin aftertaste (as expected from sherry casks). Overall, a solid product, so I disagree with the half a star review below. Not only it is drinkable, but it is better than. However, my personal choice would be Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair.

Lots of flavours among the 12s
Somehow its taste like a marriage of whisky & cognac.

Stay away
I live in an Asian mega city and sometimes I can get the older vintages.
I think I just got the new stock.
It’s awful.
“sherry bomb”?
Don’t make me laugh

Smooth rich & sumptuous
This is the perfect malt for the non purest like me. The sherry casking just gives it an adorable glow and texture.

Underwhelming
A perfect single malt for those who find some of the more traditional top shelf single malts a little confronting. A gentle whiskey of not much character.

Underwhelmed sadly
It seems pretty well integrated, but the casks seem pretty tired too.
Malt, a bit of fruit, and the dry char from the casks
It's perfectly drinkable, but the sherry influence is pretty muted. Certainly, Glenallackie is much more sherry driven, although that's far less balanced than this.
I keep looking for a replacement for Fauna and Flora Mortlach 16, and I'm yet to find it

Sorry- Rather dull
Palates are different, and I tend to favour peated though occasionally like a sweeter dram but this was just run of the mill. For a 12 year old and given all the hype, I would have expected more depth and finish. Yes it was smooth, and dried fruits and bit of spice coming through but that’s it.

Quality
Lovely smooth rich single malt at a very reasonable price. All the taste notes are as described making it a pleasant easy single malt to drink without water giving a lovely aroma with each sip.

Third Bottle of this one
Love this malt. I'll not describe it, I'll just say that I'm on my third bottle. Easy drinking single malt. The sherry aging really helps. Yes, there are better examples out there at a higher price but this slips down really nicely

the fab 12
great 12 this.. lots of dried fruits and spices i n this, and yet still pretty smooth. a little plumbers putty on nose is always a good sign in a whisky.
