A fascinating 13 year old Irish single malt which has enjoyed a finishing period in Mizunara oak casks! The whiskey was matured in bourbon barrels before being filled into casks made with Mizunara from Japan! Stunning stuff from the Glendalough range.
Vanilla ice cream dotted with toffee chunks, orange oil, a touch of pine resin, maybe even a waft of toasted almond.
Definitely quite nutty - pecan, almond again and chocolate-coated Brazil nuts. Subtly floral at points.
Notes of coffee bean and honey go on and on.
First time I had this the burn overpowered the taste, felt disappointed in investing but after this initial dram every other dram became brilliant. So much depth to it!
kick ass
The nose is unique. The first dram is kind of strange. It look's simple but as you keep drinking you keep finding more and more pleasent and interesting the whisky. I opened it and had 3 glasses in a row on a week day. Buy more than one bottle!
Originally buying one bottle as part of a whiskey club deal, I was eventually intrigued enough to inquire about and to receive a second bottle. At the beginning wasn't a fan, but have since taken a 180 degree turn. For me, really opened up with a drop of water. Different to any whiskey I have tasted in my long, but amateur and unknowledged, experience.
Bittles Bar, Belfast. Great whiskey. Rich, complex, exotic. A nice new experience after trying classics like powers or Redbreast
