Launched in late 2010, this 12 year old Glencadam was finished in port pipes and it was the first ever "finised" whisky from the distillery. Very interesting indeed.
Notes of peach, damson jam, rhubarb crumble with custard, black pepper and nutmeg. Hints of soft, summer fruits and a little old wine.
Sweet and rich with a wonderful mix of juicy malt, floral notes, a little melon and some spice. It develops with strawberry conserve on hot buttered granary toast.
Good length with cinnamon, clementines and barley.
Nose: port wine, red sweet wine. A bit harsh (alcohol burning) for 46%. Medium length aftertaste - sweet, some fruits, vanilla. As for me its stand in one line with tomatin 14 portwood and tomintoul 12 portwood. Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban a bit more rounded.
By far the best portwood I have tried. A little pricey for the age, but well worth it as it's beautifully balanced and has enough bite to give it an edge. Tastes of blackburrant on burnt toast.
Glencadam is in Angus, nowhere near the Scottish Isles....in fact it's hard to get much further away. Anyway, it's really good stuff and easily one of the best whiskies for ~£30 out there. Love to see more distilleries leaving out the colouring and chill filtering. Top marks lads.
This exquisite palette of flavor appeared amongst the stalwart single malts that hail from the Scottish Isles, and blows many away. Not relying on peat to carry her through, this dram is as fresh in flavor as a british tea, toast and jam breakfast: as all of those flavors linger as this dram works its culinary magic. A beauty you will long cherish and longer still desire. Do not hesitate to pick this one off the shelf if you see it.
A lovely dram with a nose that delivers vanilla, sweet malt and spice. Taste: Oak-spice hits the palate, accompanied with vanilla and a lovely mix of fresh and dried fruits. A long finish filled with spice and delight.
