GlenAllachie 15 Year Old Bottling Note

A 2019 addition to the GlenAllachie core range, this 15 year old single malt was treated to a finishing period in sherry casks before bottling. The casks in question were a combination puncheons and hogsheads that previously held Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry. Master distillery Billy Walker described this expression as having an "exceptional balance of the distillery’s spirit and the influence of the Sherry casks used during maturation." We'd have to agree.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Peanut brittle, dates and a big scoop of chocolate ice cream.

Palate: Walnut, raisin, Christmas spices and fresh ginger.

Finish: Coffee, Turkish delight and just a hint of flaky sea salt.

GlenAllachie 15 Year Old Reviews

Try before you buy

Ok I bought one today thanks to the salesman’s patter that “ there was great excitement at the Distillery about this one” or something that so at £63 or £66 I thought it must be worth a go. Sadly I struggled with it messing around with time and water to try and get it somewhere I could enjoy it but sadly I couldn’t. I’m not going to try to impress with notes different from those listed on the carton but ... It’s just not very balanced at all let alone “exceptionally balanced. I feel there’s too much of a high spot which overpowers whatever else they are quoting is being yielded. “Overflowing with raisins” then they say and a “rainbow of sweet spices”! I’m sorry but some thing just don’t go together - ie chocolate and cheese / so what’s with spicy raisins? What? Reminds me of that other disaster that some idiot brought to the world that never took off “Chilli Chocolate! Look this is a fail and the rest of the bottle around 60cl (so I did give it a fair chance) is headed for the sink. It really sickly. What really guts me is that when the average person makes a mistake in life there’s a consequence or a price to be paid but when distilleries foul up they dont have the balls to man up and admit it and bin the mistake - they just throw it in another cask trying to doctor things up and then nicely package and sell them to us gullible public with big sexy phrases like that above being banded around and it’s us who wind up paying for their mistakes. Know this GA This waste of £63 or £66 is going to take a lot of forgiving. What a waste and by the way M of Malt why are we forced to give half a star when we want to give a zero? It got progressively worse as I drank it. Bahhh

Must do better GA
