Murray McDavid
Scotland
Single Malt
This well-sherried Glenallachie was distilled over in Speyside in 2008, before it was whacked into a pair of sherry butts for most of its maturation. Before it was bottled by Murray McDavid, the single malt saw a finish in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez cask. The whisky was bottled at 10 years old for the Benchmark series at 50% ABV, with a limited release.
Lots of sherried dried fruit, with a touch of cherry in there too, ground almond and orange marmalade.
Dark chocolate-covered almond, buttery caramel, candied orange peel and lots of baking spice.
A good helping of cinnamon and plump sultana.
going to agree with mom here.. dried fruit and cherries are to the fore. a deep warm opening that just carries on throughout the drinking. After a little water the slight edge is rubbed off and orange now appears too on lips and tongue. the more you get in to it the more you want. pity it was limited and there are likely no more bottles. Im reducing my bottle count and this one was second to go after a hazelburn. not a cheap dram but its fine and worth it. well worth 5 stars. struth
