Glen Scotia Double Cask Bottling Note

Ooh, looks like the Glen Scotia range has had a bit of a redesign! They've gone for quite a classic, refined design this time, and have even introduced a selection of new expressions, including the Glen Scotia Double Cask! This Campbeltown single malt is finished in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Vibrant fruit emerges first (peach flesh and green apple peels), followed by chewy vanilla fudge, a hint of salinity, then an array of oak-y spices including some char.

Palate: Opens with more fudge with a little dusting of powdered sugar. Powerful, oily and a touch herbaceous with some German brandy character.

Finish: Sherried notes come through more on the finish.

Glen Scotia Double Cask Reviews

Well banlance

The perfect combination of bourbon and sherry cask
The whisky distillery from Campbelltown is already one of the highlights, with sweetness of various toffee and cream and a mild peat with a lingering finish. Calvin

A great value malt

On the nose it's initially intensely fruity, apples, pears and a little hint of something sharper like grapefruit. There's caramel and brown sugar, big oaky hit from the bourbon barrels and a salty note in the background.
Uncompromising in the mouth, the sherry influence takes over. Deep fudge, toffee and some nuttiness combine with that saltiness again. Salted caramel dessert with a good whack of mixed spice. Lovely stuff.
The finish is a little underwhelming though on this one, it's pleasant and warming, the sherry elements remain, but are gone fairly quickly.
Great value for money, just the finish lets it down.

Great starter dram

Really good starter dram, especially for the price. It’s one that I remember too and has got me into more Glen Scotia.

There are better whiskies out there.

Very strange taste which lingers on the back of the tongue. Not often I call a whisky unpleasant but this certainly fills the bill.

Love Glen Scotia!

Great whisky for the price!

Well worth trying.

Not at all bad but not really very inspiring but for the price it’s perfectly acceptable.
The nose is, to me, a little disappointing - gentle soft fruits and dried hay.
The palate redeems the whisky though. Sweet, milk chocolate and a little spiciness which lingers into the finish.
This would be a gentle introduction to Campbeltowns.

Go on then

Just as described.
It does burn a bit though it's quite cheap and quite good.
Do want to try other cambell town whiskys
