Glen Scotia 16 Year Old (Old Bottling)

Glen Scotia 16 (old) Bottling Note

Produced in Campbeltown at the Glen Scotia distillery, this was aged for 16 years in a bourbon cask before bottling. Very good stuff.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Barley grist and hints of manuka honey. Cigar boxes, wood shavings. Lemon rind.

Palate Hints of lemon curd and notes of dried apricot. Gingerbread and seaspray. Quite an oily palate. Very spicy.

Finish Vanilla custard, pralines and dried fruit.

Reviews for Glen Scotia 16 Year Old (Old Bottling)
Excellent Whisky!... with one drawback
I've now had all Glen Scotia expressions from the 12yr to the 21yr and I find this to be (along with the 18yr) the sweet spot in the range. Great complexity with notes of cooked pears, vanilla and cachaca, and of course salt. I've read reviews that put down it's non whisky-like characteristics. Ridiculous! It's not like most single malts, and as the notes are not off-putting, that's a GOOD thing, not a reason to dock it points. So what drawback you ask? My 9/10 rating is based entirely on the whisky (the only thing that matters), not it's utterly gimmicky packaging. It's not entirely unattractive, but why cover the glass and, in effect, the rather lovely colour of the spirit? For a craft whisky company, this was a big oversight in my opinion. Be proud of your whisky Glen Scotia. Go back to labels!
