Glen Scotia
Scotland
Single Malt
This latest single malt in Glen Scotia’s Icons of Campbeltown series is inspired by a medieval carving of a mermaid in the market cross area of the town itself. It’s a single malt aged in bourbon casks and then finished in palo cortado sherry casks and bottled at 54.1% ABV. The striking packaging is by Joel Holtzman, an artist who has worked with Marvel and LucasFilm.
Sweet flavours of toffee, cinnamon and chocolate with fresh sea spray and orange peel.
Thick and creamy with molasses, brazil nuts, more toffee and distinct salty character.
Long and nutty with a sherried tang.
Interesting expression from the Campbell town upstarts..A sweet briny maritime accord with apricots on the nose, and a distant coffee bean. On the palate there is a very distinctive nutty note, is it cashews or hazelnut, walnut maybe? V nutty. As that dissipates there is a tangy buttery briny note that is glenscotia. This steamrollers with the hint of sherry dried fruit. Very interesting
Deep orange hue in the glass, this is a clingy beast with a lot of legs. The nose is delightful, very saline, sea rock salt, beach spray. In the mouth it's super thick and rich, surprisingly chewy. After a few seconds the tongue tingles, but not in a spicy way, more in a strong ABV way. Apples come to the fore with that deep fudge, sea salted toffee and creme brulee element.
