    Glen Moray Elgin Classic

The central, and entry level release in the Elgin Classic range from Glen Moray distillery. Very easy to drink, this stuff offers up hints of soft citrus and barley.

    A good drinker

A bottle of this recently kept my hip flask filled and refilled for a week’s walking around the Highlands. It’s a no-frills, pleasant, mellow drinker. Is it going to be anyone’s favourite ? No. Will it win any awards? No. But put a bottle down by the side of you and you can drink it all night long (or stick it in a hip flask and sip your way through miles of mountains).

Excellent value for a decent single malt

This whisky has been £16 in Aldi for as long as I can remember. For this price it represents unbeatable value for money. It’s very light in colour which indicates no or very little caramel colouring has been added. Matured in first fill bourbon casks, there are no off notes in this whisky. It is light and simple with not a massive amount of complexity but there are subtle notes of green fruits and the dominating malty taste is really enjoyable. A splash of cold water or a small melted ice cube really opens this up. Excellent value for a decent single malt. Enjoy

    3 and a half stars

If I was blindfolded and tasted this whisky, I would judge it as a middle-range quality malt. Flavours subtle rather than distinct but at £163.16, my purchase price it represents amazing value.

Cheap, better than a blend, but still a little disappointing.

Perfectly drinkable, pleasant smell. Slightly acid but not harsh to taste, but no complexity of the flavour. Probably better with a drop of water, because it tastes slightly watered compared to a nice peaty malt.

Not to be sneezed at - dilute to wake the flavours

So easy to be snotty but this is a lovely speyside. I take my scotch with eater or soda and this is a diffrent drink with both. Fruity (lemony mainly) and floral it gives up gingerbread and gingercake on the palate with a finish that was marmalady. At higher dilutions of soda I got a deligtful bitter almond / marzipan note which only developed as I mixed with food (nuts on this occasion) An amazing £18 worth.
