Glen Marnoch 24 Year Old (Aldi)

Glen Marnoch - Aldi (yes, Aldi!)'s 24 year old single malt whisky! We tasted this alongside the sterling Glenbridge 40 year old in a tasting led by none other than whisky legend Jim Murray. This was distilled in 1987 and bottled in 2011…

We’re sadly sold out of this, but if you’re after a bottle of Scotch then feel free to browse our site single malt whisky.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Red apples, bourbon, gristy, vanilla. Heat brings out more bourbon and rye spice.

    Palate

Lean, slightly bitter, not a huge deal of depth. An enormous hit of almost Saccharine sweetness before the rye spice develops into a slightly acrid note?

    Finish

Acrid saccharine turns slightly alkali, and slightly mouth-watering (not in a good way). Becomes really very off-putting at the death.

Good stuff and for 35 quid..... It's good get some...

This is a very very nice whiskey... It has the aged flavour profiles vanilla heat, hits of pepper on wood. It's is sweet but pleasant mellow older scotch. There is apple and it's complex ok there are far better whiskey out there that are this age but for this price..... If your comparing it to s supermarket 10-12 year old for that price this gives you something very different for that price point. The 18 year old is also very good indeed... Don't knock it give it a go pleasantly surprising. The 40 year old glen bridge is also great great stuff at fifty quid but hard to get it only managed to have a taste from a pals and yes it's not as good as a producers labeled stuff, and us likely to be casks brought by aldi which did not make the grade for them to bottle but... It's good stuff and worth the cash....

    Decent price but expected more

I expected more from the flavour of this dram. There was virtually no depth or complexity to it and I have to agree with the notes from MOM. For this price there are better whiskies to be had; my advice would be to not be drawn in by the age like I was.

    Mr Taylor

The chaps at master of malt, do you really know whisky? this whisky tastes like nothing of the above. Glorious tasting whisky and a fantastic price.

Oh dear, it's from Aldi. Who cares because it actually tastes rather nice. Whoever wrote that about the 'finish' was a sad, snobby ****!
