Glen Grant's whiskies are regarded as being particularly good for long ageing, and this indie expression from Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular exemplifies this brilliantly. It's a 35 year old single malt from the distillery in Speyside, matured in a single refill hogshead from July 1985 to June 2021. A very small release of 183 bottles.
A spicy, damp oak style gives way to mocha and raspberries with a dark toffee sweetness on the nose. The palate is thick and moreish... Treacle, chocolate coated raisins and ginger balanced by a buttery barley character. From allspice to Espresso, juicy plums and orange zest, the finish lingers wonderfully.
