    Single Malt

Glen Grant 23 Year Old 1995 (casks 88187 & 88188) - Cask Strength Collection (Signatory)

This bottle of Glen Grant has seen more than two decades of ageing after its distillation in May 1995. It matured nicely in a pair of bourbon barrels for 23 years, until the single malt was bottled in February 2019 for Signatory's Cask Strength Collection. The barrels saw an outturn of 448 bottles at 47.4% ABV.

Caramelised nuts, banana bread with a good helping of cinnamon spice, and juicy plum.

Oodles of spice, with pepper heat and baking spice sweetness alongside waves of caramel.

    Finish

Almonds enrobed in rich dark chocolate and even more baking spices on the finish.

    Bananas & Big Surt?

I got the caramel on the nose, the banana bread seemed almost like a young spirit, which is nigh impossible given the age. I think this cask may have previously finished a very young spirit that eked into this second fill? Anyway, the finish just didn't come through as expected. I got tannins, bananas foster, and a touch of sulfur that reminded me of hot city streets in summer. No chocolate. Oh well. Maybe my taste buds are off today. I did sip on this as I wrote my notes after a cup of coffee from Starbucks. But my bottle is down about two fingers so far . . . Think I may use the rest for cocktails. It will certainly do well in that capacity.
