Girvan 40 Year Old 1979 (cask 13338) - Xtra Old Particular (Douglas Laing)

Single cask single grain from the Girvan Distillery, independently bottled by Douglas Laing for the Xtra Old Particular range. It was distilled in May 1979 and left to age in a single refill hogshead for over 40 years - an impressive feat! It was bottled in May 2019 with a small outturn of 317 bottles, each one accompanied by its own wooden presentation case.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Honeysuckle, caramel and heaps of coffee beans.

Palate

Fruity elements come into play on the palate, with BBQ pineapple and peaches in syrup. Still got plenty of rich caramel and nutty coffee notes running through it.

Finish

A lingering earthy hint of mature oak.
