Girvan 14 Year Old 2007 - Rare Cask Series (GreatDrams)

A sherried single grain from the grand Girvan Distillery, independently bottled by GreatDrams. This expression was distilled in 2007 and allowed to matured in a first-fill ex-bourbon cask initially, before it enjoyed a 30 month finishing period in an ex-Oloroso sherry cask. We do love the combo of good grain whisky and sherried deliciousness. They go together so well!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Currant buns with a good helping of icing, soft oaky spice, a smidge of dried orange peel.

Buttery vanilla, liquorice, black pepper leading into warm cinnamon rolls. Dried fruit remains constant.

    Finish

A smidge of blackcurrant jam and brioche on the finish.

    Floral free flowing whisky

Tried this at a Christmas market last week and was fantastic. Very floral nose and delivers a smooth free flowing whisky. Had to buy a bottle and have been enjoying immensely

Lovely and smooth and keeps on giving flavours

A fantastic dram and one that keeps on giving its a early in the night one if your doing a flight of whisky and holds a place on the top shelf in my cabinet. Keep up the good work finding Rare single casks that are honestly very addictive

    More please.

Easy-drinking, nice Sherry spice to accompany the vanilla notes from the original bourbon cask. Going down quite fast…

Big promise but no follow through

I had little trouble with this one. On the nose it is punchy and full bodied but on the palate the alcohol burn was overpowering (even thought it's only 48%). Then you add some water to tone that down but then it kind of like dissolves and all those beautiful notes on the nose disappear. The water doesn't help and all that promise of the nose is gone. So, load of promise but not much delivered so not one that I will buy again
