Finlaggan Red Wine Cask

Another addition to the Finlaggan single malt family, this particular expression was distilled on Islay and matured exclusively in red wine hogsheads. The casks were sourced from the Rioja region in the Basque country in Spain, adding an extra fruity dimension to the heavily peated Island whisky. It was bottled at 46% ABV without chillfiltering, in a release of 7,000 bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Smoky and peaty aromas intertwined with lovely sweet red berries as well as dried fruit and a hint of oaky vanilla.

Palate A salty savoury note of smoked meat against a backdrop of sweet fruit, made up of plum jam, red grapes, orange marmalade and more berries, shrouded by earthy peat smoke.

Finish Sweet malt and grape skin supported by bonfire smoke on a lingering finish.

The Best
This malt provides everything you want in a good dram. It provides smoothness that’s special and the after effects are clear head and vision unheard of from many others. Highly recommend beers and enjoy.!

Decent whisky from Islay
This whisky is not bad at all, but in my opinion way too overpriced. Where I live I can buy Ardbeg 10, Laphroaig 10
or Caol Ila 12 for less money. This Finlaggan is fully matured in red wine casks, but I can not smell or taste any red wine influence here. Perhaps the casks that they used were second or third fill, but who knows? Nonetheless it is still very drinkable whisky and worth a try. Cheers!!
