Filthy Smoke
Scotland
Single Malt
Different people like a lot of different qualities in their whisky. Perhaps you know someone who likes honeyed Speysiders, or grassy Lowland single malts. However, what you've done here is click on a whisky called Filthy Smoke, so there's a chance you like your whiskies to have a certain muckiness to them, and were hoping that was what this one is all about. If so, you are indeed in luck. This is a 10 year old Islay single malt, packed with earthy, peaty notes, which has been finished in sherry casks that were specially selected for their robust, gunpowdery, somewhat sulphury elements. It's those notes that add the eponymous filthiness to this smoky sipper, and it certainly lives up to its name.
Big, intense medicinal peat. Toasted granary bread with a later suggestion of raspberry jam, spent match, a hint of BBQ sauce sweetness and dry-rubbed ribs.
Grilled tropical fruit with a touch of char, pink peppercorn, damp wood, flamed orange peel, still has that subtle spent match hint to it underneath.
Baked earth, five-spice, lasting smokiness with just a smidge of toffee apples on bonfire night.
Thankfully it's not like taking a bite out of the ground - it's a well-put-together whisky, just with a good helping of muckiness at its core.
This has a really off putting smell to it like an old burnt out house . Or burnt tyres . Not very a very nice scent to have whilst sipping on it
Big fan of all things peat. Got this as a present and didnt expect much from the bottle. I was pleasantly surprise to experience one of the best peat malts i have had the pleasure of drinking. Yes its a filthy, smokey malt that screams bonfire night, and thats why i love it. Its not a refined finish as such, its a meaty scream of smoke thats smooth going down, with a gorgeous lingering bonfire smoke. This is one of the first whiskies where I got the same tasting notes as listed. The orange peel and char on the palate are definitely there and the finish just screams bonfire night toffee and smoke. Absolutely lovely and highly recommended.
Absolutely brilliant Whisky but it got finished too quickly (not enough in the bottle) Excellent service by supplier Masters of Malt Wonderful Flavour and after taste
Lovely smell and taste of a coal fire! Just like sitting by a cosy ingle nook fireplace, breathing in the smokey atmosphere. And, I get a dried fruit after taste, like I've just chewed and swallowed a mouthful of nuts and raisins beforehand. I think it tastes better than my description, but you get the idea!
Smokey deliciousness. A wonderful peaty dram that is fighting above it’s price point. Embers on the nose and sweet smoke on the palette. As the winter nights draw in ideal to drink in a dimmed room with a great book.
