Fettercairn
Scotland
Single Malt
A fab Fettercairn here, the first release from its Warehouse Collection! This one was matured in the distillery's Warehouse 2, and drawn from five different types of cask: Port pipes, Vasyma sherry butts, Tevasa sherry barrels, unseasoned Vasyma barrels, and ex-bourbon barrels. There's a lot to dig into here, though manages to remain approached even with the complexity imparted by this cask recipe.
Grilled peached, honeycomb, earthy coffee with some chocolatey sweetness underneath.
Festive spices, buttery biscuits, a splash of fresh greengages and pear.
Cinnamon and nutmeg last on the long finish, with more honeyed sweetness too.
The higher ABV definitely boosts a pack of flavor here: a bold fruit basket filled with sweet peaches, apricots, ripe banana, melon, a particularly buttery avocado and typical sherry fruits in a supportive following layer. Feasable honey, vanilla and caramel, the core made up of cereal biscuits, milky coffee, cinnamon and a tiny note of ginger. If I didn’t know the age I would give this far more than 10 years.
