Evan Williams Extra Aged Bottling Note

A popular brand of bourbon from Kentucky, U.S.A., where it has been produced since 1783. Rich with vanilla and caramel on the nose which continues on the palate, it's produced by the Heaven Hill company in Kentucky.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Caramel apples, spearmint, black pepper. A light hint of corn sits in the background. A slightly spicy kick of clove.

Palate: Raisins and walnuts. Creamy vanilla at the core, with an underpinning hint of vegetal oak. Zesty orange oil.

Finish: Quite spicy, with drying notes of cinnamon bark and pine nuts.

Bottom shelf price; Top shelf Quality.

Have been drinking bourbon for a while. When you are young, you tend to drink mixed drinks. So, cheaper bourbons are fine. As you get older, you begin to appreciate the straight up tastes of Whiskies. I have tried some really tasty and expensive bourbons, however, Evan Williams is the most under rated bourbons out there. Blind tastings will confirm just how good this bourbon is, and how it stands against top shelf bourbons. Get over where it is on the shelf and try it.

A lovely all round very good Bourbon Whisky,

I’ve been drinking Bourbon for a whole lot of years, from when I tour the American Base’s in the U.K.,in the sixties, where I got the taste for Bourbon Whisky, all that I have drank,I must say I find that Evan Williams come out tops,it’s very smooth, beautiful for sipping,on the rocks or with a splash of ginger ale,I cannot find one to beat it,

Best bourbon i've tasted so far!

If it still carried a 7 year old age statement i would've given this bourbon a 5 star rating. I've tried many other more expensive bourbons and i keep coming back to Evan Williams extra aged, its very smooth neat even more so on the rocks. I've never mixed this bourbon because for me it would be a crime to do so! I can recommend this bourbon to anyone who wants to try bourbon and don't be suprised if you keep coming back to this brand. It may be a "bottem shelf" bourbon but it definitely tastes like a bourbon 3 times its price range.

A good bourbon.

I'm currently sitting on my balcony enjoying the sun of the Swedish spring, having a dram of this bourbon accompanied by a Swedish craft beer. Things could be worse.

I don't usually go for a bourbon altough I tend to keep at least one bottle in my cabinet, for shaking thing up a bit. Buffalo trace and Four Roses small Batch being my go tos.

This ain't far behind. I could easily see myself buying another bottle, and since it's cheaper than my usually suspects, why not?

The tasting notes from the dudes of MoM are, as always, spot on.

Dryer than most

Good mixer. Not too sweet.

Bottom shelf wonder

I’ve been drinking this for 40 years (insert joke here). As I explore the boutique bourbons, they have to significantly beat this. Often not accomplished. Sometimes you have to just admit that one of your old inexpensive juices is doing exactly what you are searching for. Love this stuff. Corn sweet, toffee some cinnamon. Not complex but not a single note wonder either. For me the BiBEW gives just a bit more. Still, an amazing bargain.

Very, very good...

Quality and price, a dream!?

Best bargain in booze

$16.99 for a handle when it's on sale. Best bargain in booze if you ask me.

Great price for a great bourbon

I'm not a bourbon expert by any means, but this whiskey stands up to alot of other bourbons, twice it's price
Can't go wrong with a bottle of Evan!

Excellent value, smooth & well balanced

Genuinely brilliant value bourbon. I'm not normally a fan but this has robust vanilla and caramel coming through, is surprisingly smooth for the price and a nice lingering finish. Great straight although I'll admit mine often end up in a traditional Old Fashioned

Delicious, delicate bourbon

This is a really excellent, smooth, fresh and balanced bourbon. In my opinion there is a lot of nonsense in spirits that relates 1) age 2) price and 3) darkness to quality.
This has none of the cloying sweet corniness that makes many bourbons ( in my opinion ) undrinkable and sickly. Fresh and characterful.

Very smooth.

2016 Advent Calendar Notes

It's a good bourbon and a good value. I like the spicy qualities of the nose, palate, and finish particularly the latter. My preference is for more complexity in my whiskies though this is one that I would consider sipping again though I probably would not go out of my way to get it.

Great bourbon for the price

I am no bourbon expert nor do or have I gone taste testing with different brands and flavors. But I have had brands that cost much more than this cost (Woodford, Makers Mark) and to me the taste and experience with Evan Williams is equal with those. This is always my go to brand for bourbon when I am at the store.

Good Intro

I was never really a big whisk(e)y drinker until a year or so ago so my palate isn't as developed as most people's. However I found Evan Williams Extra to be a superb whiskey, definitely not a Blanton's, and the price shows it. Its best for a budget, right there next to Jim Beam White.

It has a similar taste to that of JB White, a nice oakiness with a little sweetness that takes on that of almost brown sugar/caramel. And I find JB White to be rather smooth and I can drink it straight with no issue, however this whiskey had a little bit more bite to it, very good nonetheless. If you make any mixed drinks this is definitely the budget bourbon to buy. I think the people from the US was saying its about $11 USD, and it goes for just under $30 Canadian.

Anyone whinging about this whiskey needs their head read - this is one of the best value spirits of ANY kind that I have ever come across. I am the bar manager of a whiskey bar and I also have a whisk(e)y blog, so, as you can imagine, I taste a LOT of whiskeys and whiskies. For the money, you absolutely cannot fault this. It absolutely blows some of its vastly more expensive cousins out of the water. I absolutely guarantee that if you blind tasted this, you would rank it against some whiskeys at 4/5 times the price. Unbelievable product, ignore the snobby commenters who are swayed by the price. Tastes like peaches, honey and has an oily mouthfeel, which one review below lists as a negative ><

An Acceptable Bottom-Shelf Bourbon

Maybe just a shade better than the bog standard Jim Beam. If you can afford something more up-market, don't bother with either one.

27th August 2015

what a smell

i give a 6 because of its wondrous aroma but that first sip is mabey caramel, maybe vanilla but you cant tell because of the alcohol taste override. but i guess you get what you paid for, i paid 13 for a 1L. only reason i chose to buy so bottom shelf was because the "ultimate beverage challenge" rated this product a 93/100. yes sir this whiskey is not for the faint of heart.

from a newbie's POV

saw a lot of good reviews so i decided to grab a bottle; and at this low a price, i didnt even think twice. I like it. it tastes like the typical bourbon, vanilla/maple and all, and for this price it's tough to beat. My only problem though is the mouthfeel, it feels a little like oil and water and something i can only describe as "liquid styrofoam" (it sort of feels like it's sqeaking) when you let it sit in your mouth for some time. it is good, but it probably wasnt made to be something to think about so much.

Main theme of this thing is bang for buck.

My favorite bourbon

Sweet nose, lots of toffee and butterscotch as well as oakiness. Flavors are rich and varied, the woody influences nicely counterbalanced by the nutty sweetness of the toffee and caramel influences. The finish includes a noticeable kick but it's not overwhelming. This bourbon has a perfect mixture of sweetness and spicy notes and rewards thoughtful relaxed sipping. And on top of all that, it's delightfully inexpensive. $11US for a 750mL bottle and allthis complex flavor and richness? SCORE!
