Torba - Elements Of Islay (Velier 70th Anniversary Exclusive)
A wonderfully peaty blend from Elements of Islay, Torba was created in 2017 in celebration of the 70th birthday of the fabulous Italian bottler Velier. The peated expression marries single malts from three different Islay distilleries. It was named Torba after the Italian word for peat, which is pretty appropriate, with a release of 1,200 bottles at a cask strength of 56.1% ABV.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
A heavy flint-y minerality, fading into damp oak and wet grass, gradually building into sweeter fruity tropical fruit notes alongside underripe pear, heather honey sweetness and bonfire ash.
Palate
Fresh fruit sweetness, mango and apples, a sprinkle of sea salt and a hint of seaweed, icing sugar and toasted, if slightly burnt tea cake, pear crumble, marzipan and mint chocolate, with smoky bonfire in the background.
Finish
The mint continues into the finish, with candied orange peel, smoked dark chocolate and smoked herbs.
