Egan's Fortitude pays tribute to the legacy of co-founder Henry J. Egan. The single malt Irish whiskey was matured exclusively in Pedro Ximénez casks, and as such is rich in sherried flavours and aromas.
Sweet and strong sherry, honey and raisins with a hint of marzipan.
Swirls of smoke mixed with more sherry notes, chocolate and rich dried fruits.
A long, sweet finish that lingers.
Beautifully balanced, chocolate and rich dried fruits and hints of smoke and lovely Sherry notes.
Not the best Irish out there. And for the price, there’s much better out there. Did open up after a drop of water...but meh...
My second tasting of Egan's new whiskies and although better than the vintage grain (just) this still feels like a young malt spirit hiding behind not the best quality sherry cask, like craving a Cadbury fruit and nut chocolate bar and getting the cheap Aldi rip off instead. I feel sorry for the person who paid $40 and the review stating it was "easily the most flavorful whisky" they had ever tried. Maybe they should try even the most level entry offering from Glendronach or Glenfarclas to get some real Sherry cask FLAVOUR.
Bought a bottle yesterday at $40.00 USD. Sincerely unique whiskey. When drunk straight, is not gentle at first. Surely harsher than comparable Irish whiskey like Jameson. However, the aftertaste is superbly flavorful. However, the flavor has such varied taste I can't pin down a single flavor. It's not exceptionally smooth or mellow, this is definitely for those who can taste a challenging whiskey. But in my eyes the overall taste is superb, the "buzz" is pleasant, and the next morning is easy. This is a finely crafted whiskey, and I hope to enjoy it several more times.
