16 year old single malt from the excellent Edradour distillery, bottled at cask strength after enjoying a finishing period in hogshead casks that previously held Barolo wine! It was distilled back in November 2000 and bottled in May 2017 after 46 months in those Barolo hoggies. A release of 893 bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Caramel, soft redcurrant and orange peel hints, a touch of flint.

Palate

Wheat crackers and zesty apple chutney, black pepper, pear and blackberries.

Finish

Chewy chocolate and toffee.

Excellent, but a wallet stinger

This is an interesting whisky and, to my palate, tastes like a more refined version of Aberlour Abundah. In the Abundah it is all power, full fruit, full sherry flavour, a complete sherry bomb (and I love it) - I feel like this has a similar profile except things are a little more mellow, a little more subtle BUT for the better. There are also lots of other notes to pick up and find which the Abundah doesn't have. I'm not saying this is better, merely that it is different but similar enough. Sadly, though this is a fine whisky, the price is outrageous for what it is and reflects only its rarity, as opposed to its quality. I could not recommend it to anyone except those with money to spare. I didn't really have the money to spare I just have more money than sense - if you find a bottle, just know the cost to quality ratio doesn't really stack up, but it's still a really good whisky none the less.
