Edradour
Scotland
Single Malt
Edradour is one of Scotland's smallest distilleries and at the heart of the range, this 10 year old Eastern Highlander is a rather unique single malt, a decidedly rum-like dram with a thick mouthfeel. The distillery’s methods of production remain virtually unchanged in the last 150 years, and we can see why. If it ain’t broke and all that. This single malt’s decade of ageing was spent in a combination of oloroso sherry and bourbon casks.
Medium, great complexity. Thoroughly fruity, sherry, sweetness, alluring vanilla.
Cloying, seductive murkiness. Rum, barley, toasted almonds.
Spiced fruitcake with crème anglaise.

Single malt is supposed to stop maturing once uncasked, blended and bottled. I recently poured a dram of Edradour 10 four years after first sampling. Surprised that this time around it retains the attributes of that original dram, but the harsh aspects of the woody finish are gone. Well rounded is the best way to describe it now. Overall I give it an 10 out of 10. Five of maybe 100 scotches that I have tried since 1998 have rated as highly. Secret: uncork once acquired, then re-cork and leave for a couple of years. Then re-open and pour at least 1.5 ounces and add a touch of filtered water. Take outside to “breath” then sip. Hard to describe the velvety taste.
This is a decent 10 year old single malt whisky. You definitely get the sherry cask finish, which I like. It's just that I have been going for more peaty whisky recently, and this is just a little too sweet for my palate now. But, if you like sherry cask whisky, without the peat, then this is a good one.
Now my favourite malt of all time - delicious
Visited the distillery 26yrs ago - stunning little place with a fabulous delightful whisky. Enjoyed several bottles over a couple of years. Excellent. I am not a declared connoisseur, but love a malt from time to time. Enjoyed Edradour 10yrs very much.
Best 10 yr old on the market. For the price, you can't go wrong
