Sherry

A brilliant Ballechin single malt here, bottled up by Decadent Drinks and the Whisky Sponge. This peaty expression from Edradour was distilled in 2004 and matured for 17 years, entirely in a refill Fino sherry butt. Fino sherry matured whiskies aren't all that common, but they are most certainly exciting to see, even if the label on this one is a bit... Haunting. A release of 629 bottles.
Grilled pineapple, paprika, heavy smoke with a touch of anise.
Roasted almonds, flamed orange peel, Frazzles, and baked earth.
A long, richly smoky finish.

An absolutely gorgeous dram. A beautiful balance between the fruity Edradour spirit, the blunt (as opposed to sharp Isla) peat, and the subtle and minimal Fino sherry refill cask influence. One of my all time favourite peaked whiskies. The subtle cask influence allows the wonderful Ballechin spirit to shine. A great opportunity to experience this spirit, not to mention a truly beautiful and well-balanced dram.
