A spectacular Kentucky straight Bourbon whiskey, matured for at least a decade before making its way into its distinctive bottles at 45% ABV. What's so distinctive about the bottles, you ask? Well, we're going to say it's the massive bald eagle, wings outstretched, looking like it's about to snatch up some dinner. Distinctive, yes? The whiskey is also pretty distinctive too, boasting full-bodied notes of cinder toffee, orange peel and buttery corn.

Exquisite

Incredibly rich, not too sweet but with an almost burnt caramel flavour. Absolutely marvelous drink.

Absolutely Superb!

Never heard of this before but was recommended it by a bloke in the Whisky shop in Soho and it does not disappoint. I only ever drink bourbon neat and this is absolutely superb - just the right side of smooth but with incredibly complex flavours. You can savour a small amount or drink glass after glass and still come to it as though you were tasting it for the first time. Wonderful.

This has been my favorite bourbon for the past couple months. Prefer 1 ice cube over a whisky stone as the melted ice opens up more of the sweet flavors in this particular drink. Definitely flavorful, and for the price (locally can get it for $28.99) you can't go wrong.

Changed Recipe...Lower Quality

This used to be one of the best bourbons on the market for the price. Complex, leather and toasted vanilla on the palate, real depth. Sometime in 2014 Buffalo Trace distillery changed the recipe and made this a small batch instead of a single barrel. This decreased the flavor depth and complexity by a long shot. Of course the price has stayed more or less the same and no indication of the change appears anywhere on the bottle. Bad form.

Its called Eagle Rare for a reason

I had to go to three liquor stores before finding a bottle of Eagle Rare. I found the nose to be very sweet with hints of vanilla and fruit. The taste was similar to the nose being sweet with a smooth yet spicy finish. This was my favorite bourbon until I got midway through the bottle. I'm not sure if it was the bottle itself or the fact that I put it in the freezer for a couple days, but on New Years this bottle lost all its flavor and tasted like rubbing alcohol. This is certainly a bourbon worth trying, but I don't think I will risk buying another.
