Yula 20 Year Old (Douglas Laing)
Yula is a limited edition blended malt Scotch whisky from the folks at Douglas Laing, made with peated malts from Islay and the Islands which have been aged for at least 20 years. It's named after the Norse goddess Yula - her story sees her searching for a long lost love with an apron full of stones. As she explored, the stones fell from her apron, forming islands. The last stone to fall created Islay, which is where Yula's resting place is.
This is the first release in a trilogy from Douglas Laing. 900 bottles were produced for this release.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
A barley field on the coast, light, fragrant, salinity in the air. Hints of richer and smokier things to come. Inviting.
Palate
Thick with treacle and Werther's Originals by the fireplace. Soot, but also notes of sweet spice and some from the harbour too.
Finish
Sweet smoke, brisket, a touch of heather.
Overall
A beautifully balanced and delicious peaty blended malt.
