Timorous Beastie Bottling Note

Joining the ranks of Big Peat and Scallywag is Douglas Laing's Timorous Beastie, a blended malt made entirely of Highland whiskies from distilleries such as Dalmore, Glen Garioch, Glengoyne and more. The name is a nod to the Robert Burns poem 'To a Mouse' and to Burns' wit, as though the mouse in the poem is a timid little thing, this whisky is nothing of the sort!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Acacia honey, creamy boiled sweeties (the strawberry flavour), dried apricots and white grapes. There's a good whack of Sherry influence in here too! A whiff of coastal air and classic Highland heather, too.

Palate: Dried fruits, green apples and anise. Sweet grist and malt loaf. Pebble beaches and more heather on the mid palate.

Finish: Long. Drying with hot cinnamon sweeties and fresh bread.

Overall: Who are you calling timorous? This beastie is big, brave and an absolute blast!

Timorous Beastie Reviews

An average drink, VFM

At this price range, I did not expect much. But to be honest, there was no 'sherry influence'. I could only find the fresh scent of salty air in the mid-taste. I like the long and kind of ash finish.
An average drink for a regular sipping experience.

Ekes by

This is completely inoffensive and completely unremarkable. A little heavy on the floral notes but not enough to cause a stir.

A Highland Malt with real charm

Superb dram from the Highlands - very well done!!

Disappointing.

I'm not getting much apart from sweetness. Even a drop of water to lower the ABV doesn't improve it. I expected much more.

Delightful

Delightful sip. Bought in Kankakee, Illinois as a gift/house warming for my brother. We both enjoyed an evening's tipple and a good old chin wag. Thanks for the accompanying complex whiskey.

Excellent!

Love this stuff so much that when it's finally my time to go will be having my cremated ashes placed inside. I hope 🙏 I am around to drink several cases more!

sweetly honeyed and a great rounded malt

a sweet honeyed little number from the highland region - a great all-rounded malt that I really enjoyed and will certainly buy and enjoy again

Really recommended

Barley sweetness with marmalade, vanilla fudge and buttery scones - this is a elegant, sweet highland style of malt and I thoroughly enjoyed every drop.

Ripe

I enjoyed a bottle of Rock Oyster by Douglas Laing so much I sought out what else they might have. Timorous Beastie tastes young and ripe. I've never had a "ripe" Scotch whisky before. Any "notes" are overpowered by the young sugary ripeness. Like in the movie Twins with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, it's as if they separated all of the good whisky and put it in Rock Oyster and all of the bad whisky and put it in Timorous Beastie.

Delicious Beastie

I definitely can recommend this bottle! I never heard of this one till last week, so the next day I bought myself a bottle. Like the other Douglas Laing's brands The Epicurean is a remarkable whisky for a very reasonable price!
