Speyside 55 Year Old 1967 - Xtra Old Particular 75th Anniversary (Douglas Laing)
Drawn from a sherry butt filled at a family-run Ballindalloch distillery in 1967, this undisclosed Speyside 55 Year Old is the oldest release in the XOP Diamond Collection – and arguably its most enigmatic.
Matured in a single sherry butt and bottled at natural cask strength of 52.5% ABV, it’s a stately dram with astonishing depth.
Bottled at cask strength, the whisky is presented in a stunning diamond-shaped case, complete with embossed metal labels, a collector’s booklet, and a certificate hand-signed by Fred and Cara Laing. As with all in the set, it includes a hand-crafted Richard Brendon crystal decanter and glass – a proper throne for a Speyside monarch.
Please note: this bottle is stored under lock and key, protected by chains and lasers, so we'll need a few extra days to crack it out of our vault and ship to you.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
The nose opens with dense dried fruit, antique wood and rancio-drenched walnut. On the palate, treacle toffee, espresso and spice-soaked fig dominate, with aged balsamic and cigar box rounding it out. Monumental stuff.
