The Decadent Drams gang don't usually dabble in blends, but every once in a while, an opportunity presents itself that's too good to ignore!
Here, they came across a parcel of very old, low-strength grain whisky, distilled in north Scotland in 1973 and married it with a sherry-matured blended malt, alongside a selection of peated and unpeated Speyside malts. The blend rested for over a year in a refill sherry hogshead, yielding 295 bottles when it was opened in 2025.
The label features the legendary Charlie MacLean, the original champion of blended Scotch whisky, and as the folks at Decadent Drinks say, "This isn’t just a blend, it’s a love letter to the category from a bunch of supposed malt snobs. And if you’re going to break your own rules, you might as well do it properly."
