Deanston Virgin Oak is made with young whisky which has been finished in brand new oak casks from Kentucky. Always a pleasure to have Deanston single malt Scotch whisky around, as they are certified by the Organic Food Association and power their distillery using hydro energy, so you can always feel good about the delicious dram in your hand.
Fresh citrus, honeyed barley and a subtle hint of smoke.
Toffee sweets pop up first, followed by a dollop of cream and oak notes.
Oak spices on the finish.
Well made, the new oak doesn't take over the whisky at all, which is always a risk with these casks.
The Deanston VO is bottled at 46.3% uncolored and non chill filtered. Decent traditional vanilla bourbon style NAS whiskey. A little rough around the edges due to its short maturation and highland malt spirit.
Deanston is a fairly modern distillery with a traditional craftsmanship style. Their Deanston VO is bottled at 46.3% and non-chill filtered, they didn't skimp on the presentation of the substance. This whisky is finished on virgin oak casks that are normally used to age bourbon. It gives the whisky a decent new wood influence and a little more depth of flavor and smoothens out the rougher highland character a bit. The Deanston malt distillate is fairly rough as one would expect from a highlander and not as refined as speysides. Overall if you are into bourbon and bourbon cask matured whisky and can get this for around 25-30 it is a good bang for buck no age statement whisky, that is better then a lot of entry age statements and whiskies that cost twice as much. Two to three stars on the MoM ratings scale and four stars for price performance. Wild Turkey 101 equivalent of single malt.
Everything the notes said & more
fabulous nas in new oak. very good for money. easy enough sipper but there are a few nice things hidden if you add a drop or 2 of o2
I often give this as a gift to beginners or whisky drinkers who don't think they like Scotch whisky. Very smooth, a little sweet and citrusy. Doesn't scare anyone. Good bang for the buck.
