“Love this one . Can't believe , like nosing a Wild Turkey 101 . Lots of bourbon notes on the palate and the prickly sensation on the tongue due to the virgin cask finish in 2nd maturation with a long finish. ”

Description

Deanston Virgin Oak is made with young whisky which has been finished in brand new oak casks from Kentucky. Always a pleasure to have Deanston single malt Scotch whisky around, as they are certified by the Organic Food Association and power their distillery using hydro energy, so you can always feel good about the delicious dram in your hand.

Nose

Fresh citrus, honeyed barley and a subtle hint of smoke.

Palate

Toffee sweets pop up first, followed by a dollop of cream and oak notes.

Finish

Oak spices on the finish.

Overall

Well made, the new oak doesn't take over the whisky at all, which is always a risk with these casks.

this stuff is great!!!

I'm telling you. Keep in mind, this is a no age statement and for it being bottled at 46.3%, non-chilled filtered and no caramel color added, that's pretty impressive. It's simple, but all the little that it has packs a wallop. It has all the goodies that we like in a good dram: vanilla, oak, spice, cream, baked goods, toffee. I really enjoyed this one. I will purchase this again!

Good daily drinker

Not quite as smooth as the Deanston 12 but with many of the same positive characteristics. It's $15-20 cheaper than the 12 in my area, so we keep it around as a less expensive option.
