Single Malt
A 13 year old single malt from the Deanston Distillery, independently bottled by Signatory for the ever-wonderful Cask Strength Collection series. This one was distilled back in June 2007, and allowed to age in a first-fill sherry butt until July 2020, when it was bottled at cask strength with an outtun of 625 bottles.
Hazelnut, chai latte and malt loaf.
Jammy red berries, coconut biscuits, a hint of hay developing underneath the sherried spices.
Nutmeg, ginger and chocolate cake on the finish.
Cask strength, natural colour, non-chill filtered..maybe. Label only states colour but I’m 90% sure Deanston don’t filter. However the Cask strength collection is amazing and this young Deanston. Th 13 years in a Sherry butt have made sure it’s added some classic Sherry notes while not going overboard, unsure as to if it was Spanish or American oak which would be good to know. Nose: green apple, nutty, sugary nuts, dusty, red berries. Water adds chocolate. Palate: jammy, malty, baked white bread, peppery, heather, light fruits. No dark Sherry fruits are present. Finish: peppery, those classic Sherry finish notes but light. Slightly dry. Water takes that away and becomes a little sour on the finish, but still pleasant. Don’t have anything bad to say, if you are looking at buying this type of whisky you know what you are doing! Thought I’d write a review because there are few and far between for this bottle!
