Style Single Malt Whisky

Deanston 12

Deanston 12 Year Old typifies the citrusy, malty, honeyed, and waxy house style the distillery creates through its unique production process. The multi-award-winning single malt Scotch whisky is made from unpeated barley, sourced from the Scottish Highlands, and is bottled without chill-filtration or additional colour.

“It’s like a lawnmower has exploded in your mouth - it’s freshly cut grass, it’s sweet green fruits, it’s summer in a glass,” says master blender Julieann Fernandez.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Light, cereals, zesty orange marmalade. Barley.

Palate Soft, nutty, caramel. Touch of salinity. Oak.

Finish Soft, quite abrupt, caramel.

Reviews for Deanston 12 Year Old
Nice surprise
Deanston 12 was a nice surprise. Sweet, warm, and for 43GBP, hits well above its weight. This is interesting, as I found Deanston Virgin Oak to be absolutely the worst.

Look no further
This is an excellent malt and for the price no need to look further from this distillery- I haven’t tried the PX which could be interesting as well

A classic single malt
Lovely stuff smooth with a little bit of bite.
If you are looking for a classic you really will not go far wrong with Deanston.

Highland or Lowland its a silky smooth dram.
Golden dram from the edge of the Highlands, Its light, refreshing and clean. Heaps of Citrus, I could detect lime, but sweet and floral with honey and buttered toast notes, the nose and taste seem to evolve in the glass to be followed by a gentle light floral finish, with, perhaps, a hint of chocolate ? Perfect neat and perfect at 46.3%

A Lovely Wee Dram
Just love it - no harshness or bitterness - great to sip before a meal or afterwards.

Creamy sweet highland malt that drys in the finish

Creamy, honeyed sweetness and subtle hint of vanilla oakiness. Faint hint of lemon citrus and some cereal flavour with a dryish finish. Very drinkable but less interesting/satisfying than Balblair 12 or Arran 10 which deliver more lemon and vanilla flavours.

Full bodied and flavourful Highland dram
A slightly briney smell, a bit reminiscent of brandy, but in a good way.
Thickly full bodied, slightly sweet and rich. The malty tones are not too prominent, and the spirity burn manageable.
For a 12 year old, and for this price, it's more flavourful and better integrated than most other single malts I can remember trying.
Non chill filted and 46% make a huge difference.
Definitely recommend

Be careful
New bottle is much worse than before. Much dark colour (E150 or sherry cask influence?). The smell and taste is boring. Sorry to write it because I loved Deanston 12yo... RIP
