Single malt whisky all the way from the South West of England - Dartmoor, specifically! This comes to us from the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery, made by master distiller Frank McHardy (previously of Springbank and Bushmills fame), produced in a Cognac still. Interestingly, the casks used for this expression also came from France - it was matured in ex-Bordeaux red wines casks!
Soft hints of raspberry and blackcurrant, backed up by malty vanilla and a hint of white pepper.
Waxy citrus, more blackcurrant, crunchy brown sugar, cinnamon and almond.
Fresh barley and some sweet berry hints.
Was very pleased with this, purchased direct from the distillery. Very smooth and hints of berries and chocolate. For me a good £60 bottle, will buy again.
Didn’t get the typical red wine finish you get on most red wine whisky’s. Nice enough but not worth £60. £45 and I’d definitely get it
This is a lovely expression, although it is difficult to justify for £60. The Cognac still imparts a very distinct character which is identifiable throughout the Dartmoor range. 4 years in Bordeaux cask give this dram a quality, rich and more fruity flavour than the Bourbon cask. If you like this, your will love the Sherry cask version, althought it is a lot more pricey.
