“Touch of the Islay's about it...sweet, tangy and tart, but with a underlying gentle Highlands taste.Exceptionally smooth, so there is quality distillation happening here and careful ageing in good casks. Overtly coloured, but this is probably how the punters [read: smokers] like it - strong, dark, flavourful and smoky. At 44% ALC/VOL, with its inherent provenance securely intact, water or ice added only detracts from the magnificent pleasure of letting this Whisky sit for at least 15 minutes to open up and enjoy neat in its intended form. ”

Description

Dalmore Cigar Malt was discontinued in mid-2009, causing quite an uproar indeed. The whiskies used for the reworked version were actually slightly older, but naturally still pair perfectly with a cigar.

It's a great whisky, whether you drink with its intended purpose in mind or not. And if you do enjoy cigars, you'll want to know that the stick that provided the flavour benchmark for pairing is the hefty Partagas Serie D No. 4.

Nose

Caramel, shortbread, biscuits, coffee and chocolates. Simple, clean and moreish.

Palate

Yet more toffee, caramel edging towards the burnt cinder-toffee side of things. Flamed orange-zest, and perfectly integrated sherry.

Finish

Reasonably simple, Christingles (orange Zest and clove with a touch of cinnamon), more mid-palate than palate-coating.

Overall

Definitely meets the criteria of pairing with a ‘BIG’ cigar.

Spiced toffee with a smokey waft

This is an elegant whisky. I do not, and never have smoked; a fact which put me off buying this malt. A lover of Dalmore, I took the plunge and discovered one of my favourite drams. Ready to drink without water a sweet spiced toffee caramel ends with a lovely waft of smoke. On the nose it is like smelling warm toffee in a wood shop. Add water and the smokiness intensifies and the toffee becomes richer. A beautiful dram

Well worth a taste if your not into whiskies that have a taste of peat of smoke.

Probably my favourite whisky, a smooth tasting whisky light in colour and not to harsh on the palate .

Nice tipple for a Cigarillo!

Just tried the 44% version. Not enough sherry - or kick for my liking! A reasonable whisky nonetheless! Ok, but seriously, if this is a 'Cigar Malt Blend'...bottle it at a G..D... Cigar Smokers Strength!; I.E. CASK STRENGTH!
