    Dalmore Cigar Malt

Dalmore Cigar Malt was discontinued in mid-2009, causing quite an uproar indeed. The whiskies used for the reworked version were actually slightly older, but naturally still pair perfectly with a cigar.

It's a great whisky, whether you drink with its intended purpose in mind or not. And if you do enjoy cigars, you'll want to know that the stick that provided the flavour benchmark for pairing is the hefty Partagas Serie D No. 4.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Caramel, shortbread, biscuits, coffee and chocolates. Simple, clean and moreish.

    Palate

Yet more toffee, caramel edging towards the burnt cinder-toffee side of things. Flamed orange-zest, and perfectly integrated sherry.

    Finish

Reasonably simple, Christingles (orange Zest and clove with a touch of cinnamon), more mid-palate than palate-coating.

    Overall

Definitely meets the criteria of pairing with a ‘BIG’ cigar.

    Absolutely lovely.

My wife and I spent a few days in Edinburgh in October, we went in one of the small bars in a back street (didn't take the name) ordered the wife a Gin and I thought after browsing the shelves I'd have a Dalmore Cigar Malt. It was such a surprise just how smooth it was I'm no connoisseur although I have had some nice malts but this was great, enough of my banter already I will be getting a 70cl bottle very soon. The tasting notes etc are bang on too, I will try with a cigar next although I don't smoke anymore, you have to do the tests.

    Grab Your Cutters.

Caramel, biscuits, toffee, orange zest, slight clove. Dry smell. Can see how this can be ideal with a cigar but I'm sure you can also enjoy a cigar with another spirit one tends to enjoy. Would make a great gift. Still lean more toward Dalmore 18. Enjoyable nonetheless.

    Very Different.

I like it a lot. Someone mentioned here that their first sip was very disappointing. I had the same exact experience. It grew on me and is one of my favorites. It's dense and chewy. It sticks to your glass, fat legs. There really is no other whiskey like it.

    Lovely..but...

This is a lovely drop, as to be expected from Dalmore, but for my taste not significantly different (or better) than Dalmore 18...i would in fact recommend the standard 12 year old over this...it's really nice with typical Dalmore fruit cake, smoke and sherry notes, but just not special enough
