Description

The single malt produced at Dailuaine is used predominantly in Johnnie Walker blended whisky but is an exceptional example of a sherried Speyside whisky. This particular single cask bottling was distilled in 1997 and then laid down in cask 15562, a hogshead, for 15 years. Just 282 bottles were produced.

Highly rated on release, receiving scores as high as 94.5 points from prominent whisky reviewers.

Nose

Classic meatiness you’d expect from a Dailuaine with cereal notes and delightful sherry spices.

Palate

Just brilliant. Nutty and meaty and rich and nom nom nom…

Finish

Long and lasting. The abv holds the flavour in long after the dram is done.

Overall

Meaty nuttiness balances the sherry spice. Oily and rich and delicious.

Limes and Lemons

N: Let me guess, Speyside? A touch of highlands too maybe as theres more floral than many other Speys and something industrial too like cleaning product which isn't altogether pleasant, but fortunately this subsides as some robust barley gets to work. Overall impression is - soapy, meaty, sour lemons over malt. Over time, opening up to reveal - popadoms, yeast, hops beer, peppery rocket, crisps but this is a 'limes and lemons dram' with a light biscuit crumble topping. T: Delicate, light oily spring water arrival quickly becoming an all lemon/lime affair with vanillas and caramel developing to create a sweet and sour buttery traditional lemonade mouthful. F: The momentum of those sour lemons carries on through with some underlying soft wood and sweeter grain notes A touch of salt and chalk, long finish. C: Very similar to my Balblair '83 notes WB and at £60 at time of writing, this single cask bottling is looking rather sweet.. and sour.
