Gordon & MacPhail
Scotland
Single Malt
A rare old bottling from Gordon and MacPhail which was distilled at Dailuaine in 1974 and bottled in 2000.
Pleasant oil and wax aromas overlaid by sweet baked fruit and caramel.
The baked fruit expands on the tongue for a really mouth filling dram. There is some spice here too but it's the fruit that dominates, with a slight smoke weaving through the palate.
The spice comes to the fore on the finish and it leaves a lingering pepperiness with more than a hint of nutmeg.
An excellent dram with perfect balance. There is a lot here to enjoy.
Couldn’t believe it when my father in law produced a miniature of this from the back of his drinks cabinet. He’s not a whisky drinker. ‘Sorry I haven’t got anything, oh wait, I got this years ago if it’s any good.’ It was. Liquorice and treacle in the nose, caramel and dark chocolate in the mouth. Exquisite lingering, sparkling honey at the end of the sip. Outstanding. Check the back of your drinks cabinets.
