“Hard for me to put a finger on exactly what I’m tasting, but it’s a quality whisky and it’s delicious. Meaty and substantial is about right I guess. Takes water well. ”

Description

One of the three official Craigellachie bottlings released in 2014, the distillery's 13-year-old single malt Scotch whisky handsomely shows off the bold, robust character of the distillery's output. Think heaps of dynamic fruit notes with a distinctive current of smoke running through the middle. Single malt Craigellachie wasn't seen much outside of indie bottlings for a long time, and we don't take for granted how lovely it is to see Speysider thrive.

You can read more about Craigellachie on the Master of Malt blog.

Nose

Apple orchards in bloom, slightly meaty, burnt popcorn, treacle tart.

Palate

Oily malt arrives first, followed by BBQ pineapple and summer berries. Pine nuts and almonds.

Finish

A very soft hint of sulphur hides behind biscuit and apple notes.

So smooth and beautiful easy finish

I had never tried this whisky before, a fabulous find, not over fussy or complicated, just a great smooth, delicious drink

Master of Malt Customer Feb 6, 2017

Never again

Sad to say ... I was at a Craigellahice whisky tasting last night and nothing from the 13, 17, 19, 23 was to my palate. Much of this for me is to do with the minimal copper contact provided by the distillery. Very astringent with and without water. The 31yr was a little better but that is just the wood playing its part.

so-so

While not a bad scotch it doesnt have much to make me come back to buy another bottle when theres so many others out there to try. It has a floral and slightly 'grassy' nose, which is pleasant, but when im deciding what to drink on a night, its not one that stands out from other speysides that have a bit more to them, as well as being a tad cheaper.

Really nice!

First glance at the font on the label made me apprehensive...don't know why; it just did. Fears abated immediately upon tasting! Nice warm honey, floral, and just the right amount of smoke. It even changed my opinion of the label. Highly recommend!

most overrated here

Maybe first and biggest miss-hit for me here. Smooth but that's it. Simplistic taste and practically scentless. Hard to believe that stuff like Cragganmore get less here, it's day and night.
