Imagine cracking open a cask of Craigellachie single malt after 11 long years. You've had a little taste, and things are looking good, but how many bottles will that cask yield? It's always the last fun fact that we discover when adding a new release to our collection of single cask editions, because we're the ones watching and waiting, then pouring out that delicious nectar into each bottle. This single malt spent its time in a whopping great refill sherry butt between 2011 and 2022, and we counted a total of 763 bottles when all was said and done.

Burnt toffee and toasted, honeyed nuts, buttered malt loaf, and sweet, syrup-soaked sponge cake. Drying oak spice arrives in time, cushioned by hedgerow fruits.
A big welcoming embrace of bold, robust oak, countered by treacly toffee, cocoa, and caramel. Sprinklings of warming baking spice coat the palate, balanced brilliantly by the toffee sweetness.
Complex layers of poached apples, sweet souffle, and toffee sauce tangle with cracked black pepper, and dark chilli and ginger chocolate.
Hot and needs water, but opens beautifully with four or five drops. The sherry is strong, but there's a pleasant bbq/char note, then caramel tuile, ending with a slightly bitter and dry oak and spice note. Amazing for the price, which adds a star.
Less than 50 quid for a cask strength sherried single cask Craigellachie . When you add to that the fact that the whisky is lovely delicious sherried goodness , it's an absolute steal.
Kicks like a mule at 65%, so needs a lot of water. Treat with respect and you’ll find a cracking richly sherried dram with enough complexity to be interesting and amazing value for the price. Sweet, sherry, with a slightly savoury note (think from work tubs at this distillery) with nice oily mouthfeel from single cask maturation.
Seriously good. Made a gorgeous Rob Roy with it. Bang for buck I think this is one of the best whiskies on the site at the moment.
