Cracking Cragganmore from the Distillers Edition series, which sees some spectacular single malt double matured in a variety of wine casks. This Speysider has been matured in Port seasoned American oak, bringing a depth of jammy red fruit and gentle sweetness.
Dark cherries, plums, and cocoa nibs, with subtle smoke.
Wine gums, forest fruit, with oaky spice, and distant bonfire.
Drying, with red fruits lingering.

Many years ago I bought a bottle of this in the Tomintoul whisky shop - I had tasted in store and bought a bottle of a beautiful flavoursome whisky. I decided to revisit this memory with a new bottle but I should have read the small print: this whisky is finished in "port seasoned American oak", which makes quite a difference. I appreciate that memories can not be entirely trustworthy but this whisky seems to be much thinner and much less affected by the 'port finish'. This doesn't have the attractive pink-blue tinge of being finished in 'proper' port pipes. Not a bad dram, but not as it once was - I think!
Very good quality and tasty whiskey!!! Sweet. Rum cask feeling over!!! Very strong and sweet end.
