Masthouse Single Malt Bottling Note

The Copper Rivet Distillery in Chatham, Kent has created Masthouse Single Malt, made in accordance to the distillery's very own Invicta Whisky Charter (yes, the distillers have a charter, setting out the rules and standards to which their whiskies will be produced!). This expression is distilled from Kentish malted barley from the nearby Isle of Sheppey, and was aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and virgin American white oak barrels. An impressive feat, and one that makes us excited to see what else Copper Rivet has up their sleeves...

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Apple and peachy fruit with cereal notes like malt and oats, with vanilla, cinnamon, marzipan, and a lift of lemon peel.

Palate: Creamy, with a full cereal texture, some peppery alcohol, you can feel the ABV. Smooth and round with porridge, chocolate digestive biscuits and that citrus peel note again.

Finish: Vanilla comes through strongly with oatcakes and custard.

Overall: Young but by no means raw or uncomplex. It’s smooth as hell and packed with flavour.

Reviews for Masthouse Single Malt (Double Pot Distilled)
Brilliant - Fruity and Flavourful
A real winner. Although young, this whisky is packed with flavour and is extremely moorish. Couldn't agree with the flavour notes more - initially full of fresh green apple which subdues to toffee and vanilla. I'm excited to see how the whisky from Copper Rivet Distillery develops with age!

Delicious
A lovely little whiksy, well worth the price. Sweet, fruity and very smooth. Good to support small, local distilleries as well.

A must try for an English Whisky
The tasting notes have this bang on, I can smell the apple & vanilla on the nose. On the palate the creaminess hits immediately followed by the (light) peppery aftertaste.

A very light single malt that unless you really enjoy your peaty/smoky whisky would be a great introduction to the single malt world.

I have been following the copper rivet distillery and this is their first batch of whisky so I wouldn’t take the cost into account until they can get a large batch running. That said for the price point it’s definitely worth a go & I am very interested to see where they go from here.
