You know when you learn a new word and you're trying to find the perfect time to use it? Compass Box did that, but instead of casually dropping it in a conversation, the team went and made a whisky named after it. The word in question is "Vellichor", and it's to do with the wistfulness and aromatic atmosphere of old bookshops. The team has looked to recreate that aroma in a whisky, using single malt from Highland Park, Macallan, and Caol Ila, along with portions of blended Scotch whisky and blended malt Scotch whisky. There are familiar mature whisky elements, blended with sweet sherried notes, and the all-important touch of leather-bound books.
Tasting Note by The Producer
Hints of leather, polished furniture and the crackling dustiness of decades-old pages on the nose. The palate is stacked with sumptuous malty notes, tropical fruit and Sherry character, with a delicate but persistent peatiness.
